when wilma rudolph played basketball
Wilma Rudolph, primarily known for her achievements in track and field, particularly in the 1960 Rome Olympics where she won three gold medals in sprinting, did play basketball during her younger years. Before her legendary career as a sprinter, Rudolph was involved in several sports, including basketball.
She played basketball at Tennessee State University (TSU), where she was part of the women’s basketball team. It was during her time at TSU that she also trained as a sprinter under coach Ed Temple, which eventually led to her Olympic success. While basketball was an important part of her early athletic life, it was her track and field accomplishments that brought her international fame.
