what is jv in basketball

In basketball, “JV” stands for Junior Varsity. It refers to a level of competition below the Varsity team, typically for younger or less experienced players. In high school and sometimes in college basketball programs, the JV team is made up of players who may not be skilled enough to make the Varsity team but still want to compete and improve.
The JV team usually includes freshmen and sophomores, although juniors and even seniors who are less experienced may also play at this level. The focus of the JV team is often on player development, learning the fundamentals of the game, and gaining experience for potential future spots on the Varsity team.
